When choosing flooring for your home, you are probably looking for an equal combination of cost, durability, and esthetic appeal. Although wood flooring is beautiful, it is also costly to install and maintain, and without regular and careful maintenance, is not as durable as you might wish.
A good quality alternative that ticks all of these boxes is waterproof laminate flooring. Coming in at around a quarter of the cost of wood flooring, waterproof laminate flooring is considerably more resistant to even day to day wear than solid wood.
Even if you’re not after a wood effect, laminate is available in finishes which mimic tile, stone, and even carpet, giving a range of options which will match your interior decor.
Although you won’t necessarily want to go to the lengths that manufacturers do when testing durability, you can see just how much more resistant to wear, and especially water damage your laminate flooring is by pouring a small amount of water on it – leave it a few minutes, and it will still be there.
It won’t have sunk through the laminated layer to the material beneath, and the integrity of the floor will be intact.
Waxed waterproof laminate flooring, especially when treated on all four sides will be even more resistant to moisture. If you live in a particularly humid climate, this extra level of protection would be ideal.
Although you are unlikely to deliberately pour water on the floor, it is comforting to know that spills which are dealt with quickly won’t leave a lasting mark on your laminate flooring.
